How Do You See Tallahassee?

tallahassee real estate

When you sit back and picture that Florida dream-life what do you see? Maybe you see a large, hard-wood porch with just beyond it a sprawling green lawn. Some kind of citrus trees spread out offering a feast for your senses… and probably a convertible, right?

Whatever you envision, we’d bet that you see the weather as fantastic.  Here’s a little secret; you don’t know it, but you’re not thinking of Miami or The Keys (too much rain!), you’re thinking about Tallahassee.

With, statistically speaking – numbers don’t lie, some of the best and most consistent weather in the state, Tallahassee citizens enjoy more sun than the southern cities of the Sunshine State.  But the weather is just the beginning; Tallahassee is a major hot-spot for the arts and entertainment and regularly features local artists in Railroad Square Art Park.

Railroad Square is also home to a local tradition wherein on the first Friday of the month, thousands of locals gather to experience and enjoy art together in the evening and celebrate the local talent.

As we are home to many universities and colleges, Tallahassee enjoys the heritage and wisdom housed in our many museums; whatever your subject of interest, be it fine arts, local or national history, or even automotive you can let your mind and imagination wander.

Our options for entertainment outside are just as diverse. We are lucky to be able to enjoy the many state parks in the immediate area; each with its own unique sights, activities and experiences; including but of course not limited to hiking, canoeing/kayaking, fishing and camping.

A transportation and education hub for Northern Florida, with some of the best emergency and social services in the country make Tallahassee an ideal location for those looking to start a family, or start a new chapter in their life.  Home to some of the nation’s top employers, as well as being the State Capital; Tallahassee career opportunities are as many as they are diverse.

With a population of just under 200,000 (roughly 380,000 counting the greater metropolitan area), Tallahassee offers large city opportunity with the feeling of small town community.  Careful and precise city planning ensures that the city maintains the quaint charm that helps make Southern Hospitality so famous while staying current and developing alongside the rest of the state and the country.

Come experience Tallahassee for yourself, we’re happy to have you!

Lake Talquin: A Return to Tranquility

lake talquin

State parks and bungalows, cabins and cook outs, clean air and bright stars.

Life in Lake Talquin is a return to tranquility, to a sense of community and togetherness and reaping the benefit and bounty of nature away from large urban centers.

We’d love to tell you that every-day life here is akin to retirement, but that’s only true for some – and most of them are retired!  Of course, regardless of where you live life requires income and like everyone else, we go to work.

The differences though, are striking.

Our commutes, for one, are easier.  When there is less traffic, or your work is on the water, it’s easier to get around.  Smaller communities don’t have the same needs as cities, making it far simpler to enjoy what you do to the utmost making every career here a labour of love.

We promise you though, our weekends are better.

When you immerse yourself in nature; the options to keep your interest are deeper than the daily soaps or nightly news, and we don’t just mean that in the metaphysical sense.  The state park offers hiking, camping, various types of paddle boats, and some of the best lake fishing in the country.  The deep reservoir is chalk-full of largemouth bass, striped bass, speckled perch, bream and catfish.

Fish aren’t the only animals you’ll see, deer, wild turkey, great blue herons, great and snowy egrets are all common sights that will take your breath away every time.  You’ll have your sightline of choice, with over 10,000 acres of lake to paddle or row, or choose from many hiking trails – each one offering a different view of the park from their individual vantage points.

There’s something to be said about having a lake for a back yard.  To wake up, or end the day to the sun’s shimmering reflection creates a sense of calm that cannot be dulled or diluted.

When we want it, the city is always there.  Because, let’s be honest – seeing the home team live is about as special as catching your dinner or watching an egret catch theirs. But when you want to look up at night and see stars, or wake up in the morning to the sound of the breeze rather than the banging of garbage cans and honking of horns, Lake Talquin takes the win.

The Lake Life: Buck Lake

buck lake tallahassee

It is difficult to balance our need for community with our need for privacy.  It seems that, in the city it is almost impossible to do so.  While it is relatively easy to establish a strong sense of community in a neighborhood, cities are just too big and too populated for the feeling to truly spread city-wide… and privacy?

Maybe if you’re at home… maybe.

The further you go from a city, the further apart the homes are spaced, the stronger the sense of community.  Where the homes aren’t as close together, where there are no streetlights or emergency services minutes away you become closer with your neighbours than in a city, even though they are further away.

Rural life creates communities that care for themselves, where your relationship with your neighbour is so much deeper than a nod and a wave – which isn’t even a guarantee anymore in the city – it’s one of our best kept secrets.

We don’t know why though, we say it all the time.

Buck Lake offers a plethora of hiking trails, camp sites, marshlands and wildlife preservations.  Each and every one guaranteed to take your breath away and force you to lose track of time.  It’s easy to lose yourself in nature, to be taken aback by the beauty and simplicity.  Where in the city a person may spend hours at a time in front of a TV, we simply sit on our front porch in awe of the simple splendor of nature, and we are rarely alone.  Friends, neighbors, family, it doesn’t matter; living a little further from each other makes the time we spend in each other’s company that much more meaningful.

Regardless of the weather, every morning and every evening provides a scenic backdrop that demands attention.  To see the sun rise and set over a lake and forest rather than skyscrapers is something that is impossible to be taken for granted.  Not to mention a sky full of stars that let your imagination run wild.

We live life simply here, as it was meant to.  There is no rat-race.

We just sit back and enjoy, safe in the knowledge that we belong to a community of those who help each other.

If you’ve been trying to find the perfect balance between community and privacy, come pay us a visit.  We bet it will last longer than you planned.
