Quincy Homes for Sale

quincy churchFaith, family, and friendship. These are the core values of the city of Quincy, located northwest of Tallahassee. Quincy retains the traditions that are the heart of small town life in the south, where extended family members still gather after church on Sunday for a dinner of fresh fish caught on nearby Lake Talquin. And faith is the foundation of the community (population 8,000); Quincy’s fifty churches of all denominations serve as a place of worship,

fellowship, and mentoring of children and young adults.

Like many cities, Quincy was negatively affected by the recent recession, but is currently undergoing an economic and cultural revival. This movement is driven by Quincy Main Street, a grass-roots non-profit group with goals of revitalizing the city as a multi-cultural arts destination, restoring the Quincy Historic District, and encouraging tourism.

The Gadsden Art Center and Museum is the hidden gem of downtown Quincy. Featuring a permanent collection of work by artists from the southeastern United States, the Arts Center also has rotating exhibits by well-known artists such as the Florida Highwaymen and Eluster Richardson. A visit to this local attraction should be included on any trip to the area!

Opened in 1968, it offers affordable club memberships as well as public play, and is known for having elevation changes that are unusual for a course in this part of the Florida Panhandle.

Quincy holds an interesting place in American history, as it was once the richest town per capita in the United States. The city’s wealth can be attributed to Pat Munroe, a local banker who encouraged his neighbors to invest in Coca Cola stock in the 1920s and 1930s. As the stock increased in value, the wealth of the “Coca Cola Millionaires” kept the town afloat through the Great Depression, crop failures, and recessions. And much of the fortune has remained in town, passed down to the families of the original investors.

Homes in Quincy are quite varied, and most remain extremely affordable. Quaint cottages in town, lakefront homes on Lake Talquin, well-kept brick homes on large manicured lots, and gorgeous 100+ acre estates are all available. Many undeveloped lots are also listed for sale.

If life in a small, culturally diverse, and family and faith-focused community sounds appealing, a visit to Quincy is worth your time.
